Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG)
Taking care of people, places and the planet.
Responsible business, rooted in public purpose
At Norse Group, we believe in doing business the right way, creating value not just through services, but through the positive impact we make on people, places, and the planet. As the UK’s largest local authority trading company (LATCo), we are committed to responsible growth that is ethical, transparent, and rooted in long-term sustainability.
Our environmental, social, governance (ESG) approach is embedded across the organisation and reflects our public service ethos. We work to ensure that our environmental performance, social impact, and governance practices support the communities we serve and the clients we partner with, while holding ourselves to high standards of accountability.
The importance of ESG today
Inside Norse episode 11 explores the role of Environmental, Social, and Governance principles in driving long-term value for people and places.

Supporting the journey to net zero
We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and helping our clients, joint venture partners and their communities do the same. Our strategy includes a clear pathway to achieve net zero carbon by 2050 or sooner, and we are taking practical steps to get there.
We are actively reducing energy use and waste, investing in cleaner vehicles and equipment, and taking steps to keep air, land, and water clean. Through sustainable procurement and a strong local supply chain, we are lowering our carbon footprint and supporting green growth. We collect and review detailed environmental data across our operations, helping us track our progress, share results transparently, and adapt where needed.

Creating value where it matters most
Social value is at the heart of everything we do at Norse Group. We create local jobs and apprenticeships, champion inclusive employment, and work with small and medium-sized businesses to strengthen local economies. Through our joint ventures and long-term partnerships, we deliver services that directly benefit communities, supporting people facing disadvantage or barriers to work, from veterans to ex-offenders. We encourage employees to give back through paid volunteering and our Community Fund, and maintain lasting partnerships with local charities and grassroots initiatives, ensuring our impact is meaningful, measurable, and sustainable.
Transparent, ethical, and accountable
Strong governance is the foundation of our work. As a publicly owned company, we are built on transparency, fairness, and accountability, with structures in place to ensure our decisions are clear, responsible, and aligned with the communities we serve.
Our joint venture model ensures councils play an active role in oversight and governance, and we communicate regularly and openly with our partners. We monitor and report on ESG performance using clear, measurable data across environmental, social, and financial metrics. This helps us stay accountable, support continuous improvement, and give stakeholders confidence that we are delivering ethical, sustainable, and long-term value.
