In episode 7 of Inside Norse, host Paul Pawa sits down with Claire Mackintosh, Chief Executive of Norfolk Community Foundation, to talk about the importance of supporting local communities and how small changes can make a big difference in bridging the inequality in society.

Claire shares how the foundation works closely with charities, community groups, local government, and businesses to unlock funding, strengthen organisations, and tackle challenges at a grassroots level.

Claire talks about how the same principles that drive a well-run business—efficiency, accountability, and making every penny count—are just as important in the charitable sector. However, knowing that her work directly improves people’s lives is the real motivator.

Claire also reflects on receiving an MBE, an achievement she sees as recognition for the entire Norfolk Community Foundation team and their dedication to supporting people across the region.

One of the key topics in this episode is Nourishing Norfolk, an initiative tackling food poverty in a way that’s sustainable and dignified. Claire and Paul discuss how the foundation has developed social supermarkets —affordable stores that help people access food at a lower cost, reducing reliance on food banks while maintaining choice.

Through its partnership with Norfolk Community Foundation, Norse Group is proud to have provided warehousing space and distribution support, helping scale up the programme. Today, 27 food hubs across Norfolk, run predominantly by volunteers, support 36,000 people. Beyond groceries, the hubs also act as welcoming spaces where people can connect, feel heard, and be part of a caring community.
