Since 2023, Norse Group’s security team has worked in close partnership with the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) team at Norfolk County Council, supporting the installation, maintenance and ongoing operation of its traffic monitoring camera network.
Intelligent Transport Systems
Overview
Supported by the Alarm Receiving Centre
The contract for the installation, maintenance and support of Intelligent Transport Systems transitioned into the management of Norse Group’s state-of-the-art Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) in 2023.
Since then, the service has continued to evolve. Early assessments identified key security vulnerabilities, leading to a targeted renewal programme which has now delivered upgrades to 11 cameras across the network. Building on this, we have also supported network expansion through the installation of six additional cameras in new locations across Norfolk.
Today, the network spans more than 60 sites, all maintained through a proactive programme of regular inspections carried out by a dedicated, experienced engineer. This is complemented by a 24/7 helpdesk function via our control room, ensuring that any issues are logged, prioritised and resolved quickly.
Strong collaboration remains central to the partnership, with monthly review meetings providing a consistent forum to share updates, plan upcoming works and ensure the system continues to operate effectively for the communities it serves.
Impact
This partnership has delivered clear benefits for both the client and the wider community.
Investment in newer, more efficient camera technology has improved image quality while reducing energy consumption. Enhanced functionality, including full HD imaging and 45x zoom capability, enables faster and more accurate data capture to support real-time decision-making.
With round-the-clock support in place, issues are now responded to swiftly, helping to minimise disruption and maintain continuity across the network. Our ability to deploy cameras quickly to remote or high-demand locations also provides valuable flexibility during periods of increased pressure.
Crucially, the reliability and performance of the system enables the ITS team at Norfolk County Council to better monitor traffic flow and respond dynamically, adjusting signals to ease congestion and improve journey times, particularly during peak periods.
With the effective use of the CCTV systems we oversee, and the ability to monitor the traffic flow, the ITS team at Norfolk County Council is able to adjust traffic signals to allow for smoother flow and to ease congestion at peak times.
