The Norse Group has won recognition for being a positive employer by seeking to take on those who have served in the Armed Forces or their spouses or partners.
The Group has successfully achieved the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme’s Bronze Award Certificate for its commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant.
The scheme encourages employers to support defence and inspire others to do the same and its Bronze, Silver and Gold awards are given to employers that meet its criteria.
Norse signed the Armed Forces Covenant last year, pledging to help those leaving the Armed Forces move towards new careers within the Group.
The Bronze Award promotes being Armed Forces-friendly and open to employing reservists, armed forces veterans (including the wounded, injured and sick), cadet instructors and military spouses and partners.
Roger Smith Head of Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) at Norse is spearheading the Group’s covenant commitment.
A former Warrant Officer Class 1 in the British Army, he is supported in the initiative by other ex-Forces colleagues and Reservists.
Roger said: “We achieved the Bronze Award Certificate in recognition for our commitment to the covenant. Our aim now, is to work towards the Silver Award Certificate next year.
“Norse is committed to supporting the wider Armed Forces community and recognises the part its family plays.
“We have committed to supporting those who meet any of the advertised posts and will guarantee interview if they meet the criteria.
“Those who have served within the Armed Forces bring a set of skills and qualities that can be utilised and developed within a civilian role, and they transition and develop a new career outside the wire.”
The Norse Group employs around 10,000 people up and down the country, working across both public and commercial sectors.
To date, more than 6,000 businesses and organisations across the UK have signed the Armed Forces Covenant.
