Roger Smith
Group SHEQ Director
Norse is honoured to have been recognised as a Gold Award holder in the Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS), celebrating our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant and the people it supports.
This achievement builds on our Silver Award, gained in 2023, and reflects the positive steps we have taken since signing the Covenant in 2021 to create opportunities for those connected to the Armed Forces. Veterans, Reservists, service leavers, cadet instructors and military families are already an important part of our workforce, bringing with them invaluable skills, experience and perspectives.
To achieve the Gold Award, employers must demonstrate more than intent; they must show consistent and meaningful action. At Norse, this has meant working closely with representatives from the Armed Forces community, making sure our recruitment processes welcome service leavers and their families, and ensuring that Reservists are supported with policies that give them the time and space to fulfil their duties. We are equally proud to encourage those who volunteer with the cadet forces and to create a workplace where every member of the Armed Forces community feels valued and supported.
Leading this commitment is Roger Smith, Norse’s Group Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) Director. Drawing on his own experience as a former Warrant Officer Class 1 in the British Army, Roger works closely with colleagues across the Group who have served or continue to serve, ensuring their voices and experiences help shape the support we provide.
“Receiving the Gold Award is an incredible achievement for Norse and a testament to the effort we’ve put in to ensure the Armed Forces community feels valued and supported within our organisation.
The Gold Award recognises the real opportunities and pathways we’ve put in place to help individuals transition into new careers, while also celebrating the unique skills and qualities they bring.”
Norse remains committed to strengthening this support, helping more people from the Armed Forces community thrive and succeed in their next chapter.
