Abrasive wheels and cut-off saws are powerful tools used widely across various sectors, but without proper training, they pose significant risks. HSE regulations require that all users are competently trained before operating abrasive wheels.
Course overview With a course syllabus prepared to meet the training requirement of HSG17 Safety in the Use of Abrasive Wheels and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER), our abrasive wheels and cut-off saw course includes both theory and practical training and assessment, ensuring delegates leave with the knowledge and confidence to work safely and effectively.

Training locations We offer abrasive wheels and cut-off saw training at our centre near Norwich. On-site training at your premises is available for groups across East Anglia.
Incorrect use of location equipment can lead to serious injury, utility damage, and costly project delays. That’s why the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) outlines strict guidance in HSG47: Avoiding Danger from Underground Services. HSG47 strongly recommends the use of detection tools (such as CAT & Genny) and that all operators are properly trained and competent.

This 2-day course is taught in simulated confined spaces for those working in medium risk environments. It covers what you need to know to work safely in a medium risk confined space. The course certifies entrant and entry controller/ top person.
A medium risk confined space is one where there is a realistic expectation of a specified risk. The course involves working as a team and requires candidates to use environmental monitoring, escape breathing apparatus and access equipment. NC2 and NC3 classification.

Upon successful completion, you will receive a City & Guilds Level 2 Award in Working in Medium Risk Confined Spaces (6160-09), recognised across the UK. The certification is valid for 3 years.
If you drive a lorry, bus, or coach professionally, you must complete 35 hours of periodic training every 5-years to maintain your Driver Qualification Card (DQC). Staying compliant with DVSA requirements is essential, therefore our Driver CPC Periodic Training courses are designed to help you meet this requirement in a way that’s informative, engaging, and practical.

NHSS 12D is the recognised training scheme for temporary traffic management on rural and urban roads. It’s primarily designed for local authority works, utilities, and maintenance services on roads with lower speed limits.
If your job involves setting out cones, signs, signals, or controlling traffic flow under these conditions, you are legally required to hold the correct 12D qualification.
FLTS deliver fully accredited NHSS 12D training and assessments designed for operatives and supervisors working on rural and urban roads.

TTMBC Temporary Traffic Management Basic Course (pre-requisite for the T1/M1) For all persons starting work for the first time in the temporary traffic management industry, and for those persons that do not hold current NHSS12ABCD certificates or cards, and for those who have held any NHSS 12ABCD skills that have expired by more than 2 years.
12D T1 Moving Works Operative (M1) All persons that need to become a Moving Works Operatives (MWOs) can only be involved in mobile and short duration works on NHSS12D type roads (single carriageway urban and rural roads and low speed dual carriageways).
12D T7 Course for Managers & Client Officers NHSS12D M7 is for Supervisory, Management, Designers, Client Officers, Technicians and any person who does not actually install temporary traffic management (TTM) but requires knowledge of basic practice. M7 skill holders will be able to inspect 12D TTM type sites and review 12D TTM plans. 12D M7 is a mandatory requirement for Technical Officers and the Organizations Temporary Traffic Management Manager see the National Highway Sector Scheme (NHSS) Document requirements. TTMBC is not required for the T7/M7 qualification.

The Street Works qualification is mandatory for anyone carrying out or supervising street works on public highways. You must hold this qualification to apply for or renew your Street Works Qualification Register (SWQR) card, legally required for working on highways across England, Scotland, and Wales.

What is City & Guilds 6159 Winter Service Operations? These qualifications assess your skills and ability in preparing and operating winter services vehicles and equipment.
You can demonstrate the specialist knowledge and skills you have developed:
Health and safety relating to winter service operations
Prepare and operate winter service vehicles and equipment
You will learn in the work environment. Assessment is a mixture of practical assessments, multiple-choice questions and oral questioning.
Successful candidates will be eligible to obtain a NEREO operative or supervisor’s qualification registration card, endorsed with the appropriate category, valid for a five-year period.

This unit is for all those involved with Winter Operations. It is aimed at both existing Winter Service Operatives, who need re-assessment to re-new their registration and for new or inexperienced operatives who are seeking registration for the first time.

Our office hours are 8.30am to 4.30pm.
Our centre is located just off the A11 Norwich end. We’re based in the bungalow of the Highways Depot site (signposted), not the South Norfolk District Council Depot. Follow the signs for Highways Depot/Recycling Centre.
Please note that if you’re using a sat nav system it may return the destination for NR9 3AZ as Ketteringham rather than Hethersett, which is correct.
