Heltwate SEN School ‘The Jubilee Building’
Client: Peterborough City Council
Project overview:
Pupils at Heltwate SEN School in Peterborough are now in occupation of a brand-new specialist school building designed and project managed by Norse Group. The building provides new classrooms with accessible hygiene rooms, a hall, kitchen, food technology space, sensory rooms and offices. These facilities deliver much-needed additional space and specialist provision to meet the evolving needs of pupils at the school and accommodate approximately 40 pupils.
Additional parking facilities have also been created, helping to alleviate pressures in the local area. The project has played a key role in regenerating the site of the former Silver Jubilee Pub, which had been derelict for several years following a fire and subsequent anti-social behaviour.
Norse Group were very professional in all their roles throughout the
project to ensure the successful delivery of a very complex project.
Norse Group were excellent in engaging with all of the stakeholders of the project,
for example the school, community, local councillors, and the
local authority. Max was excellent at communicating with the client
throughout the project and providing support.

Construction works were undertaken by main contractor R G Carter (Cambridge) Ltd.
The project was successfully delivered despite challenges posed by COVID-19, material shortages and rapidly rising costs during the course of delivery. The school was able to set up over the summer period, ready for pupils to move in from September 2023.
