The incredible culinary talent of our Norse Catering team was on full display last week, as our staff scooped multiple awards at the Lead Association for Catering in Education (LACA) Finishing Touches competition.

The competition, which is aimed at catering staff working in educational environments, provided the opportunity for entrants to show off their skills which would not normally be seen during their everyday profession, producing a number of stunning craft pieces.

And the judges were clearly impressed with the splendid creations that our staff served up, with two of our school cooks and a catering assistant awarded recognition in every class they entered, picking up three silver medals.

Donna Amiteye (Cook Manager at West Earlham Infant School) and Nikki Barnard (Cook Manager at Queen’s Hill Primary School) were also honoured with two ‘Best in Class’ awards, as their cupcakes and sweet macarons went down a treat.

Andrew Lipscomb, Operations Director for Norse Catering, said: “This prestigious national competition is a wonderful platform for our staff to show what they’re really capable of and we are absolutely thrilled with the results.

“We are proud to have some of the finest catering talent in the country working for us, and it’s great to see these outstanding individuals receive the recognition they deserve.

“Their achievements are also testament to the high standards we deliver throughout our catering services, as we continue to provide tasty, nutritious meals for thousands of children every year.”

Donna Amiteye’s cupcakes reflected the four seasons: Spring – lemon cupcake, Summer – strawberry and coconut cupcake, Autumn – caramelised apple and cinnamon cupcake, and Winter – ginger and pear cupcake. The artwork was designed by different children from West Earlham Infant School, where she ran a drawing competition

Nikki Barnard’s flavours were inspired by Autumn: hedgerow blackberry and apple, pistachio, fig, Norfolk honey, s’mores, and pumpkin spiced latte

Catering Assistant, Caroline Crane, works alongside Donna at West Earlham Infant School, and created this enticing traybake, which was inspired by seasonal vegetables and included fresh carrots, parsnips and sweet potatoes among the ingredients
